Fiorentina mount spectacular Milan comeback

26 March 2023

AC Milan and Fiorentina played out a topsy-turvy match this Sunday afternoon with thrills aplenty throughout the 96 minutes of action. Both sides now move level on points with third-placed Inter.

The hosts got off to a flying start, soaring into a 2-0 lead by the 21st minute thanks to strikes from Valery Vigilucci and Kosovare Asllani and went into the half-time break in cruise control.

Fiorentina’s task was made greater when Linda Tucceri Cimini suffered a knee injury, but with 22 minutes to go the visitors were given a way back into the game as Milan conceded a penalty. Veronica Boquete made no mistake from the spot to the delight of Fiorentina.

Yet only a few minutes later it was Milan’s turn to be awarded a penalty, and Martina Piemonte made no mistake. The match appeared to be petering out until Pauline Hammarlund pounced on a loose ball in the 88th minute to reduce the deficit. The Rossonere then cracked under Fiorentina’s pressure and Boquete was able to slot home another penalty in the dying moments to give her side a share of the spoils.

Fiorentina dust themselves down and now prepare to face Milan’s city rivals Inter at home next Sunday, kick-off at 14:30 CEST.
