Fiorentina Femminile secured their third consecutive win of the season, beating Parma 2-1 at Stadio Piero Torrini in Sesto Fiorentino on Sunday. With another three points under their belt, the Viola sit atop the table alongside Sampdoria.

There were a few changes for Fiorentina after their win against Como last week, as Stephanie Breitner and Alexandra Johannsdottir came in for Laura Agard and Kaja Erzen. Fiorentina were quick off the mark again, taking the lead within just three minutes. Player of the match Michela Catena was brought down in the area and referee Filippo Giaccaglia blew for a penalty. Hungarian striker Zsanett Kajan stepped up to the mark and calmly slotted home her third goal of the season to give Patrizia Panico’s side the lead. The rest of the first half saw each side threaten through their respective strikers Michela Catena and Valeria Pirone, but neither team managed to find the net again before the whistle blew for half-time.

It was Parma’s turn to make a quick start in the second half, as they managed to draw the game level on 54 minutes with a header from Melania Martinovic. Their celebrations were short-lived, however, as the Viola responded immediately. Milica Mijatovic’s looping cross found Margherita Monnecchi, who drove her effort onto the crossbar, but the rebound landed favourably for Catena to get a simple tap-in and restore Fiorentina’s lead.

The match remained lively and Martinovic was just a whisker away from drawing the visitors level once more, after her header flashed just wide of the post. In the final moments, Daniela Sabatino had an opportunity to extend the Viola’s lead as she found herself one-on-one with Alessia Capelletti, but the Parma goalkeeper managed to make the save and keep the deficit to one goal.

After four minutes of added time, the full-time whistle blew, leaving Fiorentina with nine points on top of Serie A. They face Roma on Saturday next week, with a 14:30 CEST kick-off in the Italian capital.
