Fiorentina Femminile emerged victorious against Como in their first home game of the season, winning 2-1 after a hard-fought match on Sunday. Jazmin Jackmon and Veronica Boquete got the goals to add three more points to the board as the Viola sit atop the league with maximum points from their first two games.

It was a winning home debut for the Gigliate, who were playing for the first time at Stadio Torrini in Sesto Fiorentino. It might have been a different setting, but the support was no less enthusiastic as they played their second league match of the season.

Despite the international break, Fiorentina got off to a great start and took the lead early on. Alice Parisi’s free kick found the head of Jackmon, who got there ahead of the Como goalkeeper and nodded it in. It’s the American defender’s first goal for the club since her arrival this summer.

Ten minutes later, Sarah Huchet sent a beautifully weighted long ball to Boquete, who sped past and dodged the defender to slot it past Maria Korenciova. The Viola held on to their 2-0 lead until the 36^th minute, when Vlada Kubassova found herself one-on-one Katja Schroffeneger and calmly put it away.

The visitors couldn’t complete their comeback, however, as despite their efforts, the game became a cagey affair lacking the creative edge. Only Nina Stapelfeldt came close to finding the equaliser on 66 minutes, but her header was too high.

After a difficult test, Fiorentina came away with the full three points. With two wins from two, the Viola join Roma and Sampdoria at the top of the table. They now look ahead to next Sunday’s match when they host Parma at Stadio Torrini (12:30 CEST kick-off).
