Unlucky Viola fall to Milan defeat

27 March 2022

The lunchtime clash between AC Milan and Fiorentina saw the hosts come out 2-0 victors at Vismara in a match which saw few chances and was decided by two fortunate incidents.

Milan started out on the front foot and came close to taking the lead after seven minutes through Alia Guagni. It wasn’t long until they broke the deadlock: after 22 minutes Katja Schroffenegger spilled the ball at the feet of Valentina Bergamaschi, who made no mistake from close range.

Despite Fiorentina having good spells, they were unable to convert their dominance into goals. The Viola were left to rue this when Milan doubled their lead in the 87th minute as Linda Tucceri Cimini capitalised on another defensive mistake.

To make matters worse, Fiorentina ended the match with 10 players left on the pitch as Laia Codina was sent off for a second bookable offence as Milan saw out a 2-0 win.

Patrizia Panico’s girls are now looking ahead to another away day in Milan next week - this time at Inter - which will kick off on Saturday 2 April at 14:30.
