A goal from Arianna Acuti gave the home side all three points
Fiorentina Women slipped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Napoli on Sunday as they continue their search for a first league win this season.
Fiorentina enjoyed the best chances of the first half, with Daniela Sabatino denied first by the Napoli goalkeeper and then by the woodwork following a well-judged through ball from Claudia Neto.
Martina Piemonte was brought on for the Viola in the second half and had a couple of half chances as Fiorentina streamed forward in search of the opener.
But it was Napoli who found the all-important breakthrough on 82 minutes, when Arianna Acuti ran through one-on-one with the goalkeeper before slotting home for 1-0.
The Viola redoubled their efforts and were handed a golden opportunity to equalise minutes afterwards when Napoli conceded a penalty for handball. Piemonte stepped up – but her spot-kick found the post and Napoli held on for the win.
