Quinn and Sabatino fire the Viola to victory in Verona

27 March 2021

Second-half goals from Louise Quinn and Daniela Sabatino were enough to secure a 2-0 win for Fiorentina Women over Hellas Verona on Saturday afternoon.

The result leaves the Viola in fifth place on 26 points – five behind Roma in fourth.

There was a cagey start to the game, with chances hard to come by in the opening 40 minutes. But the match exploded into life just before the break as Fiorentina created a slew of chances to score: Lana Clelland had the best of them with a fierce shot, but Francesca Durante did enough to see it behind for a corner and ensure the two sides went in level at half time.

Fiorentina didn’t have to wait long for their opener after the restart, however. On 56 minutes, Sara Baldi sent a corner into the box where a flick-on helped it to Louise Quinn, whose header duly found the back of the net for 1-0.

Verona attempted to rally, causing the Viola a few headaches as the second half wore on, but a poor backpass less than ten minutes from the end allowed substitute Daniela Sabatino to score for Fiorentina and wrap up the 2-0 win.
