Riccardo Sottil underwent surgery for a herniated disc L4-L5 on Wednesday after the period of conservative therapy agreed upon with professor Franco Benech failed to produce the results hoped for. The operation, performed by Benech himself, was a successful. 

Sottil will be discharged on Thursday and begin a rehabiliation programme. He is expected to make a full recovery in approximately five weeks.
