Venuti: “We're working hard with the coach to find our identity”

27 July 2021

Lorenzo Venuti was full of praise for new Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano as he appeared at a press conference at the club’s pre-season training camp in Moena on Tuesday.

Check out what the full-back had to say below…

On his career so far…

“This is like a dream come true for me. Establishing myself at Fiorentina was always one of my goals. I’m pleased to have found some consistency at the club.”

On the fans…

“I’m proud of the bond I have with the fans – it shows that I must be doing a good job. I’m from Florence so I can convey that sense of belonging to my team-mates. Representing Florence has to be an honour, then obviously you need motivated individual players to get results.”

On the coach…

“He’s a winner. I really like his playing philosophy. We need to get behind him to find our identity. I like a back four and feel comfortable in that system. It’s an opportunity to show what you can do and take the initiative.”

On Pol Lirola…

“He’s a good player and an asset to our team.”

On Aleksa Terzic…

“He’s giving everything in training and showing the right kind of mentality. The fact that he’s found the right rhythm is helping him.”

On Lorenzo Zazzeri’s Olympic silver medal…

I’m delighted for him because he and his team-mates have represented Italy brilliantly. He’s from Florence and a Fiorentina fan, so I can’t help but congratulate him!”

On Dusan Vlahovic…

“It’s right that he follows his dreams. Players need to be here because they want to be here. Given the way he’s training, I think there’s every chance we’ll see him in the Viola shirt for a long time to come.”
